Technical Design

Designed by Waterman Group PLC and Pauley Landscapes LTD the Urban Tree Planter is constructed in grade S355 steel plates, welded together and stiffened across its bottom surface with steel upstand cross ribs.

An anticipated design life of 25 years has been determined, based on a first coating of 140mm galvanic protection after a surface preparation of grit-blasting to Swedish Standard SA2½.

The stiffening cross ribs provide an inherent restraint for the root ball anchoring system. Provided by Platipus Anchors the anchoring system has four galvanised steel cables connect to the bottom corners of the box and are attached to a steel cable loop around the top of the root ball, tightened by turnbuckles. A geotextile membrane envelopes the root ball, providing growth limit and enhanced connection to the restraint system.

The box will have a separate root zone watering system (RZWS) and drainage/overflow system to assist the integration of the planter into the localised servicing system.
